Aluminum Coping Systems

What Types of Aluminum Coping Can We Manufacture?

We can offer several types of aluminum coping systems along with installation service if needed. It can be either sloped or level. These are the most common designs that we recommend. We can also fabricate other kinds if required by the project’s specifications. The forming process of aluminum coping is easily refined and there are almost no restrictions on  shapes that can  be created.

Coping can be done form other metals such as steel, copper, zinc… For full list please visit Metal Coping Systems.

Please click on the links below to get detailed information on each individual system of aluminum coping. You will also find technical data sheets, order forms and other valuable information corresponding to each specific aluminum coping system.

Simple System Sheet Metal Coping

This is the most common type of parapet wall metal coping. Continuous cleat is used on the side away from the roof. The interior side is fastened using screws with watertight washers. This system is very robust, easy to install and requires minimum of layout or preparations. This aluminum coping is the basic design recommended by SMACNA. Please click to learn more about Simple Sytem Metal Coping.

Snap Lock Roof Coping

This type of aluminum coping does not have continuous cleat on either side. Heavy gauge 12″ wide steel anchors are installed every 4 ft instead. The spring action of the aluminum coping cap locks the cover piece in place. This eliminates the necessity to use any exposed fasteners.  The aluminum coping system is more aesthetically pleasing but might require some layout and installation skills. It is also prone to unlocking in areas where human traffic is present on roof. Please click to learn more about Snap Lock Roof Coping System.

Continuous Cleat Spring Lock Coping

Heavy gauge steel cleat can be installed continuously on both sides of parapet wall. Spring action of the front cleat locks the coping cap in place without the use of any exposed fasteners. The goal of this aluminum coping system is to match the criteria of having a “continuous cleat” without the necessity to use any exposed fasteners (opposing to Simple System option). However the installation process of this metal coping system can be challenging if the wood blocking widths varies along the length of the wall. Front and back cleats are not connected, so the installers have to be very accurate. Please click to learn more.

What Thicknesses of Aluminum Can We Use t0 Fabricate Metal Coping System?

Aluminum coping cap can be provided in several options. It usually comes with industry standard Kynar 500 finish and will carry long term manufacturers warranty against discoloration. It will also have clear plastic protection film that will be removed after installation. As an alternative it can also be made from clear anodized aluminum, brushed aluminum as well as  aluminum composite materials.

0.032″ aluminum 0.032″ aluminum. This is the lightest commercial application option. Recommended to be used only on narrow parapet walls. Anything thinner than this is considered regular fascia coil and can be formed on site. It can solve the purpose in residential construction but will be very flimsy.
0.040″ aluminum This is slightly heavier gauge material but the difference is not significant. It is recommended for some applications with slightly wider walls. SMACNA has a diagram that regulates required thickness and we can assist with proper decision making.
0.050″ aluminum This is the most common product. The cap will be very robust, and will show minimal oil canning present if any.
0.063″ aluminum Coping made of this material is slightly thicker then the previous option yet the color availability for small orders is very limited. On bigger jobs exceeding 100 sheets of material however it is very popular.
Clear Anodized aluminum Clear anodized aluminum coping is very popular along the shore line. There is no significant difference in this material behavior from standard Kynar finished options. Just the appearance varies.
Aluminum Composite Materials (ACM) ACM is a material consisting of a rigid core glued between 2 layers of thin aluminum. The final thickness of the material reaches 0.157″. At this thickness standard bending procedures are not applicable and routing/returning is required instead. The system is usually installed as part of ACM wall panels. We can fabricate this type of metal coping as well however the installation procedures vary significantly from all of the above mentioned options.

What Accessories Can We Supply for Our Coping Systems?

The required attachment system. All cleats, fasteners, sealants and anchors are included in the provided systems unless otherwise noted in the quote.
Corners, miters, end caps and other accessories. While it is possible to miter metal coping in field it is really not recommended. It may cost even more and will not look like a finished system. Accessories fabricated in our facility are cut by a precise  equipment first and than formed and connected. This makes them all uniform. Accessories are usually priced from $25 for a snap lock end cap up to $120 for complex Y-shaped miters. Most common 90 degrees outside and inside corners rarely exceed $50 in price.
